Acute pain is pain of a short, limited duration. It alerts you to pay attention to the fact that something is wrong with your body. It also helps protect your body from further damage2-4.

 Examples of conditions that cause pain include:
 - trauma to skin, muscle and bone  
 - dysmenorrhea
 - dental pain
 - burns
 - post-operative state
 - infections, bleeding, tumors etc.
